Simon Wright is Byron Bay born and bred. Although now chasing his dream in Melbs, he frequently returns to impress us with his catchy funk tunes and lyrical hip hop.
What are your five favourite songs right now?
1. The Light (By Common)
2. Superstition (By Stevie Wonder)
3. Wandering Eye (By Fat Freddy's Drop)
4. The Light... 2 songs in the top 5 with the same name? Pure coincidence (by Pharaoh Monch)
5. Ms. Fat Booty (By Mos Def)
Which music genre do you prefer to play?
Depends... with my band I love playing the bangin party funk tunes, when I play solo I prefer the deep roots kinda stuff... but all with a twist of Hip Hop.
Do you write and play your own music?
Yeah. The set we play is mostly my original songs but there are a few reworked covers thrown in there as well.
What can I expect from a Simon Wright gig?
Buckets of energy and good vibes. Expect to be smiling and dancing all night.
What is your favourite thing to do in Byron Bay?
Definitely playing gigs, I love performing. Whether it's the Beach Hotel, the Rails or the Northern. They all have a completely different vibe about them and are all amazing!!
